Richard Crossman
Richard has been involved in the food business
since a very young age working with his grandmother catering to church
and community functions.
He studied cooking at George Brown College in Toronto and after stints
with Holiday Inns, an upscale restaurant and two private clubs,
switched to the area he loved most- baking. After more than 6
years with Dominion Stores' in-store bakeries, Richard went back to
school to take teaching certification and has spent the last 18 years
teaching Commercial Baking and Pastry Arts at White Oaks Secondary
School in Oakville.
He is a qualified cook, baker and pastry chef and for a number of years
ran his own catering company and was the executive chef of a summer
camp in the Muskokas. Richard has been very active in the baking
trade spending a number of years in executive positions with the Bakery
Production Club of Ontario and the Institute of Canadian Bakers as well
as being a member of the Canadian Pastry Chefs Guild and a number of
other food related trade associations
Richard's hobbies are many and varied but all are connected with his
creative side. He has been performing since the age of three in a
variety of community and church choirs, and local variety shows.
He has studied and taught piano, voice and organ and is celebrating his
30th anniversary as a church organist and choir director this year.
Richard has performed on stage in opera, musical theatre and dramatic
productions with a number of professional and regional theatre
companies including Opera Ontario. In the last few years he has
also branched into film and television work and can be seen in a number
of music videos for such well-known bands as Sloan and Treble Charger,
and in episodes of Masterminds and True Crime Scene and a number
of independent films.
